Centre page – Narraweena
Making A Difference at Oceana in Narraweena is located on Alfred Street with onsite parking and is right next to the Community Centre. We are within 1-2 minutes’ walk to St. John’s Catholic School and Narraweena Public School.
Being close to these schools provides opportunities for interaction with the schools which takes much of the fear and worry out of starting ‘big school’ for the centre’s children.
The centre is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6pm. It closes for 2 weeks over the Christmas holidays and is closed all public holidays.
We offer child care services for three groups: Nursery (0-2 year olds), Explorers (2-3 year olds), and Preschool (3-5 year olds).
Our learning environments are flexible, welcoming, accessible by all and stimulating. Children have opportunities to be engaged in outdoor and indoor play during the day.
The Nursery and Explorers group takes up the whole rear of the property which features a private playground and an outdoor verandah for rainy days, as well as two cosy cot rooms.
The Preschool children enjoy the front of the building and a separate outdoor playground featuring a huge sandpit.
Each group’s curriculum is child-driven and open-ended. A daily program is created which focuses on the child’s group, their individual interests and goals, as well as family input.
For more information on our curriculum, please visit the Typical Curriculum page.
We strictly follow Health, Safety and Hygiene policies as we understand the importance of security and well-being in our centre, particularly when concerning illnesses, accidents, allergies, medication, and nutrition.
Our staff are highly skilled in handling any accidents, illness or emergency in the most efficient and effective way possible to protect the well-being of all children and all are Senior First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis trained.
Our team put the children’s health first by supervising their health routine and fulfilling the health requirements of each child.
We ensure that children are provided with nourishing meals and fun opportunities to engage in physical activity.
We have a fantastic team, comprising devoted and enthusiastic members. All staff have completed or are working towards a qualification in Early Childhood education.
It is important to us that parents have an association with team members who have a connection with their child at all times. Being surrounded by a familiar person also helps each child feel safe.
We aim to provide new and spontaneous learning experiences for each child through varying activities each day.
Communication between the centre and home is highly valued by our staff and we always have time for parent enquiries.
Communication is readily available through many platforms. e.g. newsletters, parent pockets, questionnaires, handbooks, emails and discussions.
We love to involve parents and families through a constant flow of information and family orientated events, such as our family teas and shows. This is in addition to our focused information sessions (school readiness, meet the teacher nights, orientation visits).
Our open door policy means current and potential families are always welcome to visit and join in our activities
Parents and families are encouraged to provide their opinions and feedback. We love to take new ideas on board as we strive to develop the most relevant and effective curriculum for the children.
